Middle Eastern Woods

This tag is applied when the wood or other material under discussion is native to a region of the world often defined as the Middle East. Granted, this term is subject to various definitions and is often misapplied, in my opinion, but my usage of it is restricted to apply to those regions of far western Asia and northern Africa that historically were subject to the rule of first the Roman, then Byzantine, then finally the Ottoman Empires which were eventually administered under League of Nations and United Nations mandates by France and Great Britain. However, regions generally held under Persian suzerainty, are excluded, hence woods from say, Iran and Afghanistan are not tagged this way. This region also features Arabic as a common language, with the noted exception of Hebrew in the state of Israel. The eastern boundary of this region would be the state today known as Iraq, extending south to include the Arabian Peninsula and all states thereon, and encompassing the north African states of Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco.
