Small Cherry Bowl

This small Cherry bowl measures only ~6″ x 2″. It does have a bit of swirl in the grain that adds interest and under the right light there is a shimmer too.

Cherry Bowl Interior

This piece was easy to make and Cherry continues to be one of my all time favorite woods with which to work.

It strikes me as funny and as a sign of my growth as a turner that I once would have considered this to be a fairly big project and I have LOTS of blanks in this size range.  Now I can out one this size on no more than an hour, assuming it isn’t a wood that consumes massive amounts of time in sanding.  It is this increased productivity that allows me to make up to three bowls a day when I am on a roll like I was today.

All cuts were made using the Easy Wood Tool system on my Robust American Beauty lathe.  Forward chucking was in a Nova Chuck, while reverse chucking was done using a Nova Chuck with Cole Jaws.  Sanding was with Gold and Green Wave sanding discs from Packard Woodworks.  Final finish is Watco Danish Oil in Cherry.

As always, I wish all my readers a great experience in whatever your wood working interests happen to be and to those who like working with lathes especially, do a good turn today!
