I have written about Gonçalo Alves at length in a previous post and I have also written about making a platter from Gonçalo Alves as well. Most recently I have turned another piece of Gonçalo Alves into a small bowl.
This piece was relatively small at only 5.5″ x 2″ but the wood is still beautiful and it turns like a dream with clean cuts achieved with my Easy Wood Tools on my Robust lathe. Only minimal sanding was required with Wave hook and loop sanding pads from Packard Woodworks.

As before, I highly recommend Gonçalo Alves to any wood turner who is looking for a fantastic looking wood that is reasonably easy to work with. I have been consistently pleased with the outcomes when working with Gonçalo Alves and I would expect that other wood turners would have a great experience of this wood as well.
