Small Walnut Dishes

I recently made use of a set of four small squares of Black Walnut that had been cut from dimensional lumber.  These walnut squares were 4.5 inches by 1 inch, so quite small.  I’d originally considered cutting them into pen blanks, but I have some many pen blanks, and I don’t make a lot of pens these days, so instead I decided to just make small dishes from them which I thought would be more fun.

I have written extensively about Black Walnut as a wood previously.

The small walnut dishes were easy to make, taking less than an hour each.  After doing the first walnut dish I then just did the next three in the same set up.  It was fun and quick little job that turned out nicely.  I think they will make a nice little set of walnut dishes/coasters.

All the cuts were done using my trusty Easy Wood Tools.  All sanding was done with Green Wave paper discs from Packard Woodworks.  All pieces were held in Nova Chucks.  All of the walnut pieces were finished with my standard go to finish, ShellaWax, from Australia.
