I have written extensively about Eastern Black Walnut, Juglans nigra, in at least one previous post.

Quite recently I had the opportunity to work with additional small pieces of Eastern Black Walnut when I decided to make two last-minute additional gift bowls for Christmas this year. I am quite pleased with the results. The wood turned beautifully. The cuts were exceptionally clean using my EasyWood Tools rougher and finisher in the both the full and small sizes depending on where in the process I happened to be. The Easy Wood Tools Hollower #1 also played a significant role in the early hollowing phases. As always, I found that the fresher, and therefore sharper, the cutter head the better results that could be achieved.

On both bowls, to slightly varying degrees, there is some ribbon curl that exhibits chatoyancy effect when rotated under a bright light source.

As I almost always do when working with Walnut, both bowls were finished with two coats of Watco Danish Oil in Natural color.

I hope you enjoy seeing these latest pieces to come off my lathe, out of my shop, and into the homes of friends and relatives.
