I just made a small bowl from Canarywood, which some readers may recall I have worked with quite a bit in the past, including some large platters. It is safe to say that Canarywood is one of my favorite woods to turn since it cuts cleanly, requires little sanding, and often has wonderful streaks of red mixed into the yellows and browns.

Canarywood

Admittedly, this wasn’t the most exciting or colorful examples of Canarywood that I have worked with, but still, it made a nice little piece.

All cuts were made using the Easy Wood Tool system on my Robust American Beauty lathe. Forward chucking was in a Nova Chuck, while reverse chucking was done using a Nova Chuck with Cole Jaws. Sanding was with Gold and Green Wave sanding discs from Packard Woodworks. Final finish is Shellawax.

As always, I wish all my readers a great experience in whatever your wood working interests happen to be and to those who like working with lathes especially, do a good turn today!
