Claro Walnut Project

Claro Walnut Bowl Crotch Flower

The final bowl is among the wildest of them all.  It wasn’t labeled as a burl but it certainly could be.  The grain is truly wild, interlocked, and swirling with the grainy appearance of a burl.  It also features some strong flame figure on one side.  It too was very dark and that color is natural since the finish was clear.  It also measures 9″ x 3″.

Claro Walnut Bowl Burl Maybe

This was a fun little side project since I enjoy working with Claro Walnut and because I came out of it with some really interesting and special pieces.

All cuts were made using the Easy Wood Tool system on my Robust American Beauty lathe.  Forward chucking was in a Nova Chuck, while reverse chucking was done using a Nova Chuck with Cole Jaws.  Sanding was with Gold and Green Wave sanding discs from Packard Woodworks.  Final finish is Natural Watco Danish Oil.
