Greenheart

I guess you could call the color “green” but it is a bit of a stretch of the imagination I think as it certainly isn’t a vibrant green.

With some effort it is possible to achieve a nice shine with Greenheart provided you are willing to invest the necessary time on the finishing processes.

Much to my surprise, Greenheart made the Wood Database list of the “10 Best Woods You’ve Never Heard Of.” In the explanation it is noted that Greenheart is a “pain to work with” which doesn’t sound like a ringing endorsement of a “best wood.”  I can easily think of a dozen woods I like a great deal more, although you’ve probably heard of my favorites.  Maybe obscurity is recommendation enough, but not in my book.

All cuts were made using the Easy Wood Tool system on my Robust American Beauty lathe.  Forward chucking was in a Nova Chuck, while reverse chucking was done using a Nova Chuck with Cole Jaws.  Sanding was with Gold and Green Wave sanding discs from Packard Woodworks.  Final finish is Shellawax with an underlayment of EEE Ultra Shine.

As always, I wish all my readers a great experience in whatever your wood working interests happen to be and to those who like working with lathes especially, do a good turn today!
