Seven Cherry Bowls

Cherry is one of my favorite materials to work with. It turns beautifully, cuts relatively cleanly, sands out easily, and it takes a nice finish. Plus it has a lovely pinkish cast and smells nice too.

The two smaller bowls in the front measure 5″ x 2″ and they are quite a bit darker than the other 5 despite all being Cherry and all being finished exactly the same way.  Different trees sometimes produce quite different looking woods of the same species.

Seven Cherry Bowls

The three medium sized bowls are 7.5″ x 3″ and could easily be from the same tree since they are so similar in appearance.

The two largest bowls, from left to right, measure 9.5″ x 3″ and 9″ x 4″.

All seven of these bowls turned and finished easily and I am pleased with result.

These bowls represent the end of the last batch of blanks that I had joined and planed so now we will move on to entirely new woods, exotics this time I think, as I continue to work through my extensive stock of bowl blanks.

All cuts were made using the Easy Wood Tool system on my Robust American Beauty lathe.  Forward chucking was in a Nova Chuck, while reverse chucking was done using a Nova Chuck with Cole Jaws.  Sanding was with Gold and Green Wave sanding discs from Packard Woodworks. Final finish is Cherry Watco Danish Oil.

As always, I wish all my readers a great experience in whatever your wood working interests happen to be and to those who like working with lathes especially, do a good turn today!
